COURSE:

Methods & Materials of Painting (PT330-5)

MATERIALS NEEDED:

For first class- afternoon session:

  • 2 sheets SMOOTH or hot press watercolor paper, 140 lb.

  • Drawing board, at least 18 x 24 inches.

  • Gummed paper tape.

  • Sponge.

Brushes:

  • 1 ½”- 2” Flat Squirrel hair, or any very soft hair brush - not synthetic.

  • Various small w/c brushes, sable or synthetic- size # 000-#2.

  • Various inexpensive bristle rounds, size #1-4.

  • Two Bristle - 1 ½” flat (inexpensive hardware store type brush.)

Additional Materials:

  • Masking tape.

  • Watercolor palettes or mixing dishes.

  • Palette knife.

  • Unprimed linen - enough for two 12 x 12 inch works.

  • Box of 5 dust masks.

  • Latex or vinyl gloves.

  • Two sheets 220 sandpaper.

  • Two sheets 400-600 wet/dry sandpaper.

  • Two 32-oz mason jars or equivalent.

  • 1 pair knee-highs.

  • Several small jars with lids.

  • Cans/jars for rinse water and turps.

  • Lead Oil primer or tube of flake/cremnitz white.

  • 12 x 12 inch stretchers- preferably heavy weight.

  • Staple gun & staples, or carpet tacks & hammer.

  • Pushpins or carpet tacks.

  • Gum Turpentine substitute.

NOTE: Students should bring a sample of their work to first class.

Not all supplies needed for 1st class.
