Écorché with Kimberly Monson

An écorché or flayed figure is a model used for drawing, painting or sculpting the human body without skin to study the underlying musculature. This five- week course is an abridged overview using geometric masses to represent the skeleton and a system of templates to represent major muscle groups. Students will learn tactics to measure, plot and interpret what they see. Supplemental lectures, handouts and drawings will specify how the form of the body follows its anatomical function. The students will be sculpting 12” figures in clay. Armatures will be provided.
