Gesture and Meaning in the Italian Renaissance

We have all learned that non-verbal components of communication such as body language, hand gestures and facial expressions can mean different things in different countries at different times. How then can we expect to understand the full meaning of figurative artworks from other times and cultures, such as the Italian Renaissance? In this lecture we will explore original interactive ways of understanding by venturing personally into the human landscapes of some of Italy’s most well-known masterpieces.
