Portraiture with Rick Lacey

image

The focus of this class is to provide students with a foundational approach to draw and paint the portrait from life. A variety of models will be featured and any media is welcome. Some of the concepts that will be addressed include, placement of the subject, building the initial axial framework, the basic structure of the head, proportions, measuring, line quality, and dealing with light and shade. Students will be exposed to portraiture in relation to art history and will have the opportunity to focus on specific areas of interest. The structure of the class will consist of a one week pose, followed by a two week pose and concluding with a three week pose. This ensures the student will gain confidence in the task of beginning a piece, while also providing the necessary time to complete a finished work. All levels welcome.
