Drawing in Color: Figure Drawing in Dry Pastel
(PC & CE)
Learn to transition a typical value-based figure drawing into one of vibrant color. This course helps bridge the gap between basic observational drawing and painting.

*Digital Painting
(PC & CE)
Gain insight into the fundamentals of physical painting in the digital world. Students will work with Adobe Photoshop, as well as other programs, to create works of art digitally. This course helps bridge the gap between “Fine Art”, concept art and illustration.

Roland Becerra is the artist, creator and director behind the short film Dear Beautiful, as well as co-founder of SoMuch Pictures. ‘Dear Beautiful’ was the winner of the Moving Pictures Magazine Animated Short Film competition and screened at Cannes Film Festival. It was also an Official Selection by the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. Since that time he has been working on his new project, ‘Agatha,’ which is yet to be released and follows in the footsteps of ‘Dear Beautiful.’

*Twilight Landscape
(PC & CE)
Learn through the exploration of limited light landscape painting to convey mood, narrative and natural beauty through the exploitation of the twilight atmosphere in the local area. Old Lyme is well known for its blue and violet light at sunrise and sunset.

Naturalistic Figure Painting
(PC & CE)
This is a limited palette, naturalistic figure painting class. In this class, emphasis will be placed on using effective drawing, color and paint application in order to create a convincing sense of three-dimensional form. Learn how to achieve a compelling sense of finish without using small brushes, in a relatively short period of time.

Connecticut River Valley Landscape (Painting Image- see attached)
(PC & CE)
This is a naturalistic landscape painting class. Emphasis will be placed on using effective drawing, color and paint application in order to create a convincing sense of space. Understand how the painters of yesteryear achieved this skill, which conveys the beauty of the natural environment. Learn how to achieve a convincing sense of finish in a short period of time.  Classes will meet both on location and on campus.  All skill levels welcome.

Pastel/Painting and Applied Color Theory
(PC & CE)
In this class students will be taught basic techniques of painting still life arrangements using dry pastel and other color based media, such as oil paint if the student prefers.

3-DAY SESSION
5 hours per day

Pre-College Portfolio Preparation: Strengthening your Portfolio with Figurative Art
(PC)
This class is designed to help young artist’s prepare an application to art college with an emphasis on supplementing their creative work with observational figurative art.

Instructor: Kimberly Monson, MFA, New York Academy
Date: Friday to Sunday, Aug. 8, 9 and10
Time: 10 to 3pm
Cost per student: $300

5-DAY SESSION
3 hours per day

Figure Sculpture:  An Anatomical Intensive
(PC & CE)
Explore the world of subtle anatomical exaggeration without sacrificing observational accuracy to produce drama and motion. Students will learn many observational figurative sculpture techniques.

Time: 10 to 3pm

Cancellations and Schedule Changes:

Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts reserves the right to cancel courses, and to alter fees, scheduling or staffing of courses.  If a program or course should be cancelled, students will be informed at least a week before the class start date. Please allow six weeks to process all refunds. Students will receive full refunds in the event of course cancellation.

Payments:

Payment is due at the time of registration.  A registration fee of $35 is required.  Registration fees are non-refundable unless a course is cancelled by the College.

Withdrawals and Refunds:

To withdraw from a class, submit written notification to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Continuing Education in person, by mail, or by fax.  Refunds will be calculated according to the following schedule upon receipt of written notice:
Three weeks prior to class start: 100%
One week prior to class start: 80%
