Douglas N. Jones, Jr., a trustee who served Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts from 1979 through 1990 and acted as an advisor to the College, died on February 6, 2011.
He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on June 23, 1916 and graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He was with the IBM Corporation for 37 years, retiring in 1975 as Corporate Director of Personnel Relations. He interrupted his service at IBM to serve in World War II, and was discharged as a Captain. In retirement he moved to Essex where he was very active in community service, serving on many local boards. Mr. Jones was a member of the Dauntless Club, a board member of the Old Lyme Country Club, past president of Lighthouse Point Beach Association, a founding director of the Maritime Bank and Trust and founding Trustee of the Essex Elementary School Foundation. He was a long-time member of the Essex Rotary and had the distinction of being named a Paul Harris Fellow.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary, his son Douglas III and daughter Robin, both of Tucson AZ, and many family members and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Deep River Congregational Church on Friday, February 11 at 2 pm← Return to News
