It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and colleague Jim Falconer on Tuesday, July 10, 2012. Jim served the College as its Director of Financial Aid and Registrar for almost 20 years.
To quote from a letter about Jim sent by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Diana Atwood-Johnson, to staff, faculty and trustees, “... he gave so much to so many. His dedication and loyalty (and understanding of the complexities of public and private financial aid programs) were critical to the growth and development of the college. He always did everything he could to help a student put together the financial resources necessary to enroll, and nurtured them through the process.”
The whole College community will miss him terribly. Quoting again from the Chairman’s letter, “Jim’s tragic death leaves a hole in all of us that we won’t ever really be able to fill. Sorrow has hung heavily over all the college since learning of Jim’s passing and will for many, many days, weeks and months to come.”
We extend our sincere condolences to Jim’s wife, Naomi, and his children, Ariel and Julian.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church, New London for family and friends.
The College is setting up a scholarship to honor Jim’s memory. If you wish to contribute, please send checks payable to Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts with ‘Jim Falconer Scholarship’ in the memo line and mail them to the College for the attention of Wendy Masse, Controller,at 84 Lyme Street, Old Lyme CT 06371.
