Congressman Joe Courtney will announce the winners of the 2012 Congressional Arts Competition at a gallery showing at the College this evening at 6:30 p.m. The competition was open to high school students in Connecticut’s Second Congressional District and requires that the work be original.
This year, 53 artists submitted work for the competition. Artists represent seven schools from seven towns across eastern Connecticut: Enfield, East Lyme, Norwich, Hebron, Stafford, North Stonington and Woodstock
During the five years Congressman Courtney has hosted the competition, eastern Connecticut high school students have submitted hundreds of pieces of artwork. The district winner will be awarded roundtrip airfare to Washington, D.C., to attend the opening of the national exhibit. Winning artwork from each congressional district will be displayed in the United States Capitol Building for one year.
