Schumann Foundation Visiting Artist

Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, one of five colleges of the University of New Haven is pleased to announce a search for the inaugural “Schumann Foundation Visiting Artist” for the spring 2018 semester.

The Schumann Foundation supports programs to enhance the inter-relationships between art, education, and the environment.  The Schumann Foundation Visiting Artist at the University of New Haven’s Lyme Academy College will teach an undergraduate studio or lecture course in an area related to arts and the environment, present a community lecture and/or workshop based on a related topic and/or the visiting artist’s work, and engage with students to create a work of art responding to issues relevant to the environment and art to be installed on the College campus for a specified period of time.  Coursework and other activities should make use of the surrounding environments as an active part of how the environment can influence the artist and their practice.

The visiting artist position is funded through a grant from the Schumann Foundation with an expressed goal of “how each (art and the environment) can influence the other, and how making art, especially with natural materials found in our environment, can foster a deeper understanding of the environment.”

In addition to compensation for teaching, housing will be provided as well as a stipend for living expenses.

Applications will be considered immediately and on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.  Artists with extensive experience working in this field will be considered and a MFA or PhD in a related field is preferred.  Applicants should submit a letter of interest, a CV, and a portfolio representing their work (10 images max, 5 minutes of time based media, or excerpt of written work).  Applications should be submitted to slideroom at
