An outdoor workshop for students interested in watercolor landscapes.  Demonstrations and individual attention will focus on simplifying what the student sees, creating strong compositions, using value structure, and color theory. Students work at outdoor locations throughout Old Lyme.

This workshop is open to oils or acrylics.  The course deals with composition, value, color, and the simplification and integration of landscape motifs on a picture plane.  Students work on location throughout Old Lyme, with a studio available for rain days.

Working on a small scale gives an artists some powerful advantages, namely mobility, economy, flexibility and speed.  This course takes advantage of Pochade, the French word for rough sketch, wit the versatility of acrylic paints.  Students will explore light, color, glazing, and colored grounds.  The class will utilize the quick drying, non-toxic properties of acrylic paint that make it perfect for fast ourdoor studies.
