Visual Resources: Collections | Equipment

Our visual resources are primarily to support our Faculty in their on campus presentation & instructional needs. Students are also permitted access to visual resources upon authorization.  More details are shared below about access and use of our visual resources.  Should you have any further questions please inquire with library staff.

In general, visual resources are defined to include the library's 35 mm slides, digital images, videos & DVDs, projectors, and other slide & image viewing or creation equipment.

Image Collections

Our collection of VHS tapes and DVDs are accessible in the library.  To verify if the library owns a specific title, conduct a search on the library's public access catalog.  Additionally, viewing equipment for either format is available for use on campus on a reservation basis. more details below

Digital Images are accessible both from subscription databases and from other digital image collections at Library designated workstations.   General-use guides are available for items in this collection.  Subscription image databases are listed on our website at: http://www.lymeacademy.edu/The_Library/libimagedb.htm  Additionally, the library has acquired or produced additional image collections; these holdings are listed in our Slide & Image Catalog Database.

The library's collection of slides is housed in cabinets in the Visual Resource Center, adjacent to the Librarian's office. Slides are filed alphabetically and arranged by medium/subject categories (see outline of medium & subject categories listed below.)

A Slide & Image Catalog Database is available for student & faculty searching in the Visual Resource Room.  It may be searched by artist name, medium, title of work, or established subject headings.  If you would like to confirm if this collection contains a certain image please ask staff.

While students do not have unrestricted access to the slide collection, they may have access to this collection when accompanied by a faculty advisor.  Faculty may make special advance arrangements with the Library if they need one of their students to make use of slides from our collection.  Faculty interested in check out slides from the slide collection should be aware of the borrowing policy.
