Our Art College's library had its start with a modest collection that grew to slightly over 1,000 books, donated by many individuals compelled to support the research needs of our faculty and students.  It was not until late in 1991 that the Academy brought its library under professional leadership by hiring its first librarian and tremendous progress has been made since that time. Today, the cataloged book collection is approximately eleven times its starting size.  Current resources include a growing collection of books, exhibition catalogues, slides, journals, electronic resources and videos. This growth and our success stems in great part from the leadership support of generous and concerned contributors.  In 1997, our college of art received a significant contribution from Mr. and Mrs. Robert Krieble, $250,000 of which was allocated to the development of library resources.  That same year the college opened its doors to the newly dedicated Krieble Library.

We are fortunate and very appreciative of the many donors and generous benefactors who have aided the library in our growth.  We invite you to come by and visit the Krieble Library to explore the collections.  If you are interested in supporting the library with a gift please contact Loree Bourgoin, our Library Director, or our office of  External Affairs at (860) 434-5232.

Also, the Krieble Library will accept donated books and other materials from individuals or organizations. If these materials match areas of research and instruction within the College, they will be considered for cataloging into the collection. For those donations accepted, the librarian will make the final decision on which materials are added to the collections. If a donated item is already held or not deemed suitable for the library's collections, donated materials may be designated as library surplus, used to create library monies through the library's book sale, or offered to other suitable institutions for use as those institutions see fit. Donors may be asked to sign deeds of gift, giving the Krieble Library ownership of the materials. Alternative terms may be negotiated at the discretion of the librarian.

Acceptable materials should be in good physical condition and must be free from mold and bug infestation, as both mold and bug infestation endanger our already developed collections. Donations of money to fund the processing, preservation or repair of donated materials will gladly be accepted.

Extras: The Library can not provide estimations of value for donations. Donors interested in securing estimation of value must make prior arrangements with an assessor of their own choosing.

A bookplate is inserted in each book or periodical volume in honor of the donor, or as the donor stipulates, as a symbol of the gift. Written acknowledgement of every donation will be provided to the donor. A full title inventory of the each donation will be conducted in the library within three months of the gift. Once compiled, an inventory list will be provided to the Institutional Advancement Office for formal acknowledgement of each donation. Formal acknowledgement letters are issued by the College's External Affairs Office.

Effective July 1, 2000.
