COURSE:

Figure Painting (PT270-5, PT370-5, PT470-5)

MATERIALS NEEDED: Bring images of at least 5 of your favorite paintings.

Prepared surface of your choice, about 18 x 24 inch: oil primed panel, or prepared water color paper sealed with a matte medium or shellac, linen or canvas (oil primed.) Future formats to be discussed on individual basis.

Paints:

  • Transparent Red Oxide (Old Holland)
  • Blue Black or cold black
  • Cremnitz White (Old Holland)
  • Flesh Ochre (Old Holland) - Not Flesh Tint!
  • Yellow Ochre (Georgian)
  • Nickel Titanium Yellow (Old Holland)
  • Mars Black
  • Sepia Extra (Old Holland)
  • Terre Verte or Chromium Oxide Green (Old Holland)
  • Kings Blue Light or Deep (Old Holland)
  • Blue - Violet (Old Holland)
  • Raw Sienna (Georgian)
  • Alizarin Crimson or Madder Lake Deep (Old Holland)
  • Pthalo Green
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Any other suggested colors for your particular composition as discussed in class.

*The Art Store only carries Gamblin and Winsor Newton paints.

Brushes: Variety of soft, brittle, sable, rounds, sizes.

  • Flats in sable, small and medium.
  • Rounds in brittle and sable, small, medium, and large.
  • One 2 inch chip brush.
  • Synthetic round brushes, size 2 and 4

Clean palette of choice.

Palette knife.

Bring a decent soft rag to paint with or strong paper towels.

Linseed oil.

Eco-House odorless paint thinner.

Eco-House dammar medium.
